The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai's Masvingo provincial chairperson, Wilstaff Sitemere is recovering at home after he was involved in a horrific road accident along the Harare â€" Masvingo highway.
The accident occurred on Saturday night around 8pm when the vehicle he was travelling in burst a front tyre and overturned near Featherstone. Sitemere had gone to Harare to attend the MDC-T National Council meeting.
"We were approaching the Featherstone area when we heard an explosion. It was a tyre burst and the driver panicked and lost control of the vehicle. We suspect he applied brakes and the vehicle overturned. We were thrown out of the vehicle and several people were injured. Two people died in the accident. I thank God for saving me. It was a fatal accident. We were taken to Chivhu general hospital and was later transferred to Masvingo provincial hospital," said Sitemere.
The MDC chairperson deplored the government health delivery service which is led by Minister of Health and Child Welfare Henry Madzorera who is also a member of the MDC-T. Sitemere described the service as 'pathetic.'
"The government ambulances and rescue services were nowhere to be seen. We had to thank Mars personnel for reacting swiftly. I discovered some people lose their lives due the ineptitude of government health services. There is a lot of work to be done if we are to improve health delivery services," said Sitemere yesterday while addressing party officials who visited him at his Target Kopje residence.
