On the eve of Zimbabwe's 32nd independence celebrations, President Mugabe spoke to more than 3500 children at a party held for them at the City Sports Centre in Harare.

He said children are the future inheritors of the country's resources and should be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage them.

Mugabe commended the First Lady, Grace Mugabe for her work with vulnerable children at her orphanage home in Mazoe, 40 kms north of Harare.

He also urged parents to be responsible and take care of their children, and watch what they are doing as some of them are engaging in drug abuse, among other things.
