Former Tourism minister Walter Mzembi has been taken to court by a private school in Harare over a $13 130 tuition fee debt for his daughter.
Through its lawyers, Musoni Masasire Law Chambers, the Harare-based international school filed the summons against Mzembi on August 16, claiming payment of the owed school fees which has not been paid for the 2017 and 2018 school terms.
"Defendant is Walter Mzembi, natural person and a male adult whose address of service is (number withheld). Defendant is the parent and natural guardian of minor child (name withheld). As per the educational services offered to the defendant's child, plaintiff (school's name withheld) charged tuition and levy for the same," the school said in its declaration under case number HC7457/18.
"The customer ledger for the defendant shows that the defendant owes the plaintiff a total of $13 130 for the services rendered to the defendant's child for the period 2017/18 school period. The above amount is still owing and accruing interest. Despite demand, defendant has failed, neglected, denied and or delayed to pay the capital debt in question.
"Wherefore plaintiff prays for: – payment of the capital of $13 130 plus interest at the prescribed rate from the date of summons to date of full and final settlement and cost of suit on a high scale and collection commission in terms of the Law Society of Zimbabwe by-laws."
Mzembi is yet to respond to the litigation.
