THE African Apostolic Church led by Paul Mwazha hosted a massive three-day Annual Holy Communion gathering at Irisvale Farm in Umzingwane District which drew an estimated 10 000 congregants from Matabeleland South Province.
The church's popularity in the ministry of healing has become the chief contributor to its growth and now has membership in the United Kingdom, Dubai, Australia, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Angola and DRC.
In an interview yesterday, the church's publicity and information secretary, Reverend Wilson Rutsate said the church was in the process of establishing branches in East Africa.
"The healing ministry, as you heard people's testimonies, has driven the church's growth with people of all elms coming to join. We are in the process of establishing branches in East Africa," he said.
The gathering was also attended by church chairman Bishop Enock Mhambare who ministered to the multitude of followers.
Each province meets annually to receive communion, where thousands of members of the church gather to receive Biblical teachings, share testimonies and receive prophecies. The conference started on Friday and ends today. Rev Rutsate said the church values education and health.
"We value the education of our children. I know that many when they hear that you are an apostle they imagine those Vapostori who are pot peddlers. Paul Mwazha was educated so we all embraced his teaching about education. We also consider health meaning that when one of our members gets ill we advise them to go to hospital," said Rev Rutsate.
He said many people attended the gathering because this year they are celebrating the 100th birthday of church founder Paul Mwazha.
"Today we are celebrating the 100th birthday of our founder who was born on 25 October 1918," said Rev Rutsate.
