Two people die in road accident

TWO people were killed while two others were seriously injured when the right rear tyre of a Honda Fit they were travelling in burst, resulting in it veering off the road and hitting a tree in Athlone, Gweru.
The accident occurred on Saturday at around 0800hrs when the driver of the Honda Fit, which was heading towards Kwekwe, with four people on board, lost control of the vehicle after it had a tyre burst and it veered off the road before hitting a tree adjacent the Chicken Inn outlet at the On the Run stopover.
Gweru City Council chief fire officer Mr Emmanuel Musemwa said they attended the accident and the two injured people were rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital.
"I can confirm that we attended an accident on Saturday at around 0810hrs where a Honda Fit had a tyre burst along Bulawayo-Harare. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road before hitting a tree.
"Two people, including the driver died on the spot while two others were injured," he said.
"Those that were injured were rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital. The driver of the Honda had a provisional licence, which he acquired on August 28."
The area is becoming black spot after two other people died around that area after a Toyota Wish failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the road before hitting a tree. Several accidents have occurred around that area.
