Illegal miners clash with cops

Artisanal miners in Mazowe mine reportedly went on rampage burning cabins for security guards at Mazowe mine last night after one of their colleagues was shot by the police.

Sources familiar with the incident allege riot police tried to chase the illegal miners away at Mazowe and finally shot one of them on his leg.

"The illegal miners were angered by the riot police that came to chase them away but they did not take heed.

The police fired warning shot and eventually shot one of the miners popularly known as Kapare there by triggering war zone between the security guards and the illegal miners who subsequently burnt the guards' cabins," said Tendai Zingwa.

Mine workers reportedly moved their cars from the mine yard to the police station for safety.
