Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's United Family International Church (UFIC) has launched a housing scheme, dubbed the Promised Land, in Chitungwiza.

The scheme will see over 200 UFIC parishioners taking up stands in the dormitory town's Nyatsime area.

Chairman of the Promised Land Housing Scheme Mr Reginald Msika confirmed that the project would benefit members of the church.

According to Mr Msika, the piece of land on which the project will be rolled out is privately owned. Other members of the church have already been mobilised to pool resources for the purchase of the property.

"We are in the process of buying a privately owned piece of land in Nyatsime and after we have fully paid for it we will then start to develop it ourselves," he said.

The housing scheme has a logo inscribed: "Receive your prophecy mwana wemuporofita (prophet's child)".

The stands are being sold for US$1 130 each.

A pastor at the church, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the existence of the housing scheme but was quick to point out that it is not "centrally" run by UFIC.

"As a ministry, we do not have direct control of the co-operative. However, I know of that co-operative," he said.

"There is nothing unusual about it; it is just like any other co-operative where members come together to buy themselves houses and stands."
