Cops beat suspect to death in Bindura

Three members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) based in Bindura reportedly assaulted a suspected cellphone thief to death without officially recording the theft case in their report book on Sunday.
According to a leaked police memorandum, the deceased Brian Gavha(21) allegedly stole a Samsung phone at Admire Mudhuviko's Longman hardware in Musana Bindura on Saturday afternoon.
Mudhuviko approached three police officers Tendai Jiriyengwe(35), Prince Moyo (29) and a member of the ZRP police constabulary Rangarirai Nenzou age unknown who are cited as accused one to three in the memo to apprehend the now deceased at his place of residence.
"On 9 September 2018 at around 0700 hours, Admire Mudhuviko proceeded to ZRP Nyava base in the company of his brother Edmore Mudhiviko, accused three, Board Masike and his mother. They found the first and second accused manning the base.
Upon arrival, the Admire Mudhuviko and his team accused one and two took the now deceased to Masere village Chief Musana, Bindura where deceased allegedly hid the stolen cell phone.
They were in the company of accused three, Admire Mudhiviko, Edmore Mudhiviko, Board Masike and his mother.
They arrived at the scene at around 0900 hours but the now deceased had forgotten the exact place since he had hidden the cell phone in a state of drunkenness.
The three accused person took turns to assault the now deceased using a button indiscriminately on the buttocks, feet sores and on the neck until at around 1400 hours when now deceased was showing no signs of life. Accused one tried to conduct some first aid but to no avail.
Accused one then phoned his mother station i.e ZRP Bindura Rural and advised them of the case.
Detectives from CID Bindura attended the scene in the company of ZRP Bindura Rural and observed the body of deceased lying lifelessly facing upwards. Deceased's body had some bruises on the right side cheek, handcuffs wounds on both hands and bruised right shoulders. No blood stains were noted.
Witnesses were interviewed and statements recorded. Accused one and two were picked whilst accused three was not located.
It was noted that the case of theft of cell phone had not been officially booked in the reports book.it was also noted that deceased was a wanted person for stock theft under ZRP Bindura Rural CR 116/12/17.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Bindura Hospital Mortuary," reads the memo Efforts to contact national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba were fruitless.
