MPs vote for presiding officers

The First Session of Parliament has opened with the members selecting presiding officers, that is, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker, Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
The process commenced with a nomination process for preferred candidates for the position of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Zanu PF nominated Advocate Jacob Mudenda and presented his profile.
Mrs Paurina Mupariwa was also nominated by the MDC Alliance.
The Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda then informed the house of the need to go for elections which are being conducted using a secret ballot and presided over by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, and voting is now underway.
