Mkwidzi Secondary and Primary Schools have been asked to close temporarily by the area's Environmental Health Technician Mr Chris Ncube until the community has repaired the borehole and Clean water and Sanitation situation is restored in the two schools.
The two schools have been depending on a borehole almost 500m away that is community owned. It was installed with a solar water powering system which was however vandalised and the schools have not been with clean safe water for almost a year now.
Attempts to lobby the community to provide clean safe water for the schools has not availed anything The school Heads then informed the GDA RDC as the responsible authority, the Village Health Worker Mrs S Moyo and the Environment Health Technician Mr Chris Ncube with concern about the possibility of the spread of Typhoid and Cholera.
Early on Thursday 13th of September 2018 the mentioned health officers discussed with the parents explaining the spread and effects of Cholera and Typhoid with examples from statistics given by the media.
They finally gave a resolution that both schools suspend operations until the water situation is solved. They asked to address learners from both schools and informed them about the resolution.
