A 37-YEAR-OLD Mazowe artisanal miner has been sentenced to seven months in prison by Concession resident magistrate Ruth Moyo for breaking a colleague's hand, accusing him of stealing a hammer.
Zifa Munetsi was lucky to escape a custodial jail term after the magistrate suspended three months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour and another four months were set aside on condition that he performs 140 hours of community service at Mazowe Police Station.
Prosecutor Media Gunda told the court that on August 30 this year, Munetsi accused Clemence Manomano (31) of stealing his hammer before assaulting him with a wooden stick, breaking his hand.
Manomano was rushed to Concession Hospital where he received treatment and his medical report was produced in court as exhibit.
In a related case, Audiaus Mutsvairo (25) from Chiweshe appeared at the same court charged with breaking a colleague, Robson Chikukwa's jaw following a brawl over results of a televised soccer match on August 28.
Mutsvairo was fined $150.
