Mavambo Kusile Dawn (MKD) Interim President, Simba Makoni is strongly warning President Robert Mugabe not to go ahead with the holding of elections before instituting all necessary reforms which guarantee a free and fair result.

MKD says it demands an immediate stop to violence from Zanu-PF, MDC-T and MDC-N and is currently worried with the situation whereby rural areas are no go areas for opposition political parties.

"The people of Zimbabwe want a clean voters' roll. The issue of dual citizenship should be addressed so that the country's nationals in the Diaspora are allowed to vote from any station around the globe. All political parties should be allowed to campaign freely without harassment from opponents. The Inclusive Government (IG) should open up the airwaves to allow other independent radio and television broadcasters to operate," said MKD.

Simba Makoni's party said the electoral environment should be conducive for the holding of a credible election. MKD said it is deeply worried by the prevailing political environment which instills fear amongst the people whenever there is mention of conducting elections in Zimbabwe.

"For the record, we are not afraid of elections. MKD has no problem if elections are held tomorrow, the day after or in a week's time, as long as the electoral environment is conducive," said the party.

MKD said it will not dance to Mugabe's tune on elections.

"We will not dance to the whims and caprices of President Robert Mugabe to hold elections under the present volatile environment. Elections, unlike ritual ceremonies, where lives of innocent people are sacrificed, are events of national importance which should bring relief and honour to the citizenry as they present another chance for the electorate to review their choices. It is unfortunate that in Zimbabwe, holding of elections is a different case. Instead, election time is a time of sorrows and tears."

The current environment is tilted heavily in favour of Zanu-PF to manipulate the people's will. The people of Zimbabwe are not willing to endorse a shame election. We will not allow President Mugabe to tamper with the people's will this time around. This is no idle threat but a promise.

MKD leadership will not speculate on the course of action to take, since it is the people that will decide. One thing for certain is that in the event of President Robert Mugabe tampering with the peoples' wishes, we will make this country ungovernable.
