Cop arrested for stealing $1,3 million diamonds

A police detective attached to the Mineral Unit in Mutare has been arrested for stealing gold and diamonds worth $1,3 million.
Detective Sergeant Elphas Dube (28) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing 13 383 carats of of diamond and 196,4 grammes of gold.
The minerals were part of exhibits taken from suspects and kept at the station Dube was based in.
Dube was reported to be still in custody by Monday assisting police with investigations.
Police sources said Dube was arrested when CID Minerals Unit coordinator, a Superintendent Dube conducted an inspection at the at the police station the detective was based.
"When the inspection was conducted, Dube could not account for the minerals leading to his arrest," said the police source.
"So far nothing has been recovered."
No comment could be obtained from national police spokesperson Andrew Phiri.
