Speaking a different language - whether it's one's grandparents' tongue or primary - school English - fundamentally changes the structure of your brain and assimilation of issues, Ngqabutho Ndhlovu has said.
"Put a bunch of these malleable minds together in an organisation, political party or company, and you create the potential for some truly original thinking, enticing and positivity. As a linguist I must say it was exciting and thrilling to hear the baritone voice of Hon. Thabitha. Khumalo on Studio 7 articulating her facts in defence of MDC Alliance Members of Parliament walking out of the House on September 18 in protest of Emmerson Mnangagwa legitimacy as the President of Zimbabwe, by her using the three dominant languages namely isiNdebele, chiShona and English," he said.
"Multicultural or multilingualism awareness is an essential soft skill in work as well as life, and it goes beyond office culture to economic political and development benefits. According to how you articulated your issues Hon. Khumalo, that shows linguistic determinism. It seriously influences the way we see the Zimbabwean political context as we've been in a series of political retrogressive development. It seriously brought joy to a lot of listeners across the world as you paid mutual respect to them. Let that be the daily culture as you're the National Chair."
He said the multilingual nature you possessed yesterday should improve or innovate the way our organisation practical operates especial on position selection.
"It has a bearing to bear positive or negative results, for example, luring new members into the party, reduction of language factional discrepancies. My listening of how you spoke, should encourage the political divide to erase propensity of monolingualism and bilingualism. It does not bear fruits. Whether it was by mistake or merit, but I believe merit, I want to salute President Chamisa for selecting you to that position. Do all the best that you can and open the minds of those who are still closed when it comes to issues of language," he wrote.
"Your positive attitude is valuable. It'll erase the negative attitudes and ultimately solidify the movement."
