Mnangagwa's diary packed in New York

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, is leaving no stone unturned in his engagement and re-engagement offensive through holding several meetings with leaders from other parts of the world, including the United Kingdom's Secretary for African Affairs Harriet Baldwin who visited Zimbabwe in February this year.

Sources close to the meeting said the talks centred on progress that has been made in economic and political reforms and the issue of Zimbabwe's debt burden in as far as the Lima Plan is concerned.

Following the successful implementation of the land reform programme in Zimbabwe, relations between the southern African country and Britain have thawed under Prime Minister Theresa May.

Recently, the UK through its outgoing ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Laing pronounced that it was considering assisting Zimbabwe with the international debt issue.

The President also met with a representative of the Qatar government.

He also met President of Estonia Mr Kersti Kaljulaid and many others.

A series of other bilateral meetings are also lined up this Tuesday after the official opening of the 73rd Session of the UN General which kicks off this afternoon.

President Mnangagwa is expected to meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, President of Swiss Confederation, the Prime Minister of Belgium and US Secretary of State for Africa.

Meanwhile, the general debate starts this Tuesday and President Mnangagwa makes his contribution to the gathering on Wednesday after lunch.
