Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) Chief Executive Officer Josh Chifamba has told business executives that by 2020 the country would be using nuclear energy.

He says there is no reason why a country with untapped uranium deposits continues to have chronic electricity shortages.

"We have four power options at the moment. One of it involves nuclear power. We are looking at the year 2020 to go on full scale nuclear power production," said Chifamba.

"As for the nuclear power option, it will be the fourth option. We will set up a small group to look at the nuclear option. We are looking at the year 2020 and onwards for full scale nuclear power production," said Chifamba during an International Business Conference in Bulawayo

Several surveys have revealed that country has huge uranium deposits which have not been exploited.

Zimbabwe has had great difficulty meeting bills from Mozambique, South Africa and Congo for imports from the regional electric power grid.
