Prison officer dies in accident

A ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services officer stationed in Kezi in Matabeleland South, died on the spot while the driver of a pirate Honda Fit sustained serious injuries in a car crash that occurred along Kezi-Maphisa Road last week.
Bizmark Mwembe (26) who had boarded the vehicle in Kezi, died after he sustained serious multiple body injuries while the driver, Mr Bonani Moyo got seriously injured and was rushed to Maphisa District Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The accident occurred at about 3pm, on Thursday at the 99km peg in Kezi as the driver tried to overtake another vehicle.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the accident.
"We received a report of a fatal road accident that occurred along Kezi-Maphisa Road at around 3pm, on Thursday. The Honda Fit was travelling behind another vehicle from Kezi towards Maphisa. The driver ahead of him saw some goats and applied brakes to stop while the Honda Fit driver attempted to overtake.
"During that process, Moyo veered off the road to the right and overturned once killing one person on the spot. He sustained serious body injuries and was taken to Maphisa District Hospital," he said.
Chief Insp Ndebele said the body of the deceased was taken to Maphisa District Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem.
He said the accident was caused by speeding and misjudgments by the drivers.
Chief Insp Ndebele warned motorists against speeding, urging them to always exercise caution and follow road regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and injuries.
