Gas shortages in Harare

Harare residents have raised concern over gas shortages in the city, a commodity the majority use for their day to day operations.

While motorists are spending hours in long queues searching for fuel, the ZBC News has also observed that parallel long queues are emerging at these busy service stations populated by customers looking for the liquefied gas with tanks stretching to above 20 meters in some instances.

Some of the people who spoke to reporters lamented that they are spending close to eight hours before they are served and at most times return home unattended.

While the reasons behind the shortage of the commodity remain unknown, some complained that they are being overcharged close to or above $5 per kilogramme, hence sacrifice to spend hours at those service stations where gas is being served at the recommended retail price of $2.50 per kilogramme.

Gas has become a source of energy for the majority who are finding it difficult to afford electricity, while to those who are still yet to be electrified use the energy source for lighting and cooking.
