President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa this Sunday joined the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) members at Mbungo in Masvingo for their conference where they were praying for the rains as well as celebrating Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi's belated birthday.

It was a double celebration as the President shares a birthday date with Bishop Mutendi.

The ZCC leader was born on the 15th of September 1939, while President Mnangagwa was born on the 15th of September in 1942.

Bishop Mutendi said the church dedicated this weekend to pray for the rains.

He also said the current difficulties the country is facing on the economic front will soon be over, likening the situation to a woman in labour who has to go through intense pain in the last phase of giving birth.

Like a woman going through the difficulties that come along with pregnancy, Zimbabwe is also going through hard times but joy is on the horizon," Bishop Mutendi said.

President Mnangagwa concurred with Bishop Mutendi that these are the stages of pushing and soon the country's difficult economic phase will be a thing of the past.

He said hard work is essential in improving the economy.

"When the child is born, the mother forgets the pain so let's push and stay strong. Where there is unity and love even the economy thrives," the President said.

The proceedings were rounded off with the cutting of two cakes for each of the birthday boys.
