Zimbabwe horror accident death toll jumps to 50

Fresh details from the Rusape bus disaster indicate that the accident was not a head on collision but a side swipe.
It has also emerged that 50 people died contrary to earlier reports that had put the death toll at 47.
According to ZRP Officer Commanding Rusape District Superintendent Isaac Gowe, 45 people died on the spot while five others died this morning at Rusape General Hospital.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to the public to come to Rusape General Hospital to identify bodies of their relatives.
Sixty-one people were injured.
Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo has consoled the bereaved families and expressed shock following the accident saying the tragic loss of life is unacceptably high.
In a statement, Moyo says he has ordered the civil protection structures in Manicaland province to swiftly attend to the affected.
"A recommendation being made to His Excellency the President to declare the accident a state of disaster," he said.
Minister Moyo said the Civil Protection Directorate is working with the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe on the assistance to be rendered to the injured and the bereaved.
