Fast food outlet Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Africa which closed all its restaurants in the country a month ago, has re-opened the restaurants.
In a statement, KFC Africa - the franchise in Zimbabwe said they were excited to be reopening.
"We're excited to announce that we have reopened our restaurants which were closed following recent currency challenges that hit Zimbabwe which affected our supply and operations.
"As KFC Africa, we remain committed to supporting the economy by contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. As such, to our restaurant teams; we'd like to welcome back home, and to our loyal customers, we look forward to creating more Finger Lickin' Good moments with you," read the statement.
On the first day of reopening, it was business as usual at the Bulawayo and Victoria Falls branches as cars drove in to get their favourite meals and snacks. However, many have been stunned by the new pricing where the popular Streetwise Two which was $5,50 before the closure is now $9. A 21 bucket meal is now up to $70 from $34 while the 15 piece meal is now $50. Four dunked wings now cost $8. Commented comedian Carl Joshua Ncube: "Eish, the KFC prices in Zimbabwe are wallet licking expensive."
"Overpriced is not even the right description . . . Ridiculous," commented one Kristoffer Young.
Another, Sharon Wilson said: "They'll be closing their doors again soon as noone can afford KFC meals at such prices."
KFC which closed its operations in Zimbabwe during the economic challenges in 2007, reopened in 2014 in Harare. The Bulawayo branch was opened in August last year.
