Mnangagwa back from AU Summit

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his delegation are back from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he had attended the 11th African Union (AU) summit.

Speaking to journalists soon after arrival, the President said it is work in progress to develop a leaner, efficient and more business friendly continental body.

"It was an extra-ordinary summit of the AU to deal with reforms of the AU in order to address current issues,…such as the economy. We also resolved to reduce the size of the commission from 10 to 8, and introduced the concept of rotation, the commissioners themselves should now rotate among the regions but of course on the basis of merit," said Mnangagwa.

He appreciated the amount of work accomplished over the past two years, adding that Zimbabwe is in synch with the decisions made by African leaders to make the continent more self-sufficient in funding its programmes.

President Mnangagwa was met at the Robert Mugabe International Airport by the two vice presidents: Retired General Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, the Minister of State Security Owen Ncube, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Welfare Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and service chiefs.
