A Waterfalls man was left heartbroken after his 'wife' secretly married another man in Chinhoyi last week. However, the woman DENIES having been married; they were just girlfriend and boyfriend, she claims.
Munashe Mupambwa (28), who is studying towards a Bachelor of Technology in International Purchasing degree at Chinhoyi University, is accused by her 'husband' Tawanda Mangwaira 32), of ditching him for another man. The heartbroken Tawanda said Munashe's relatives reportedly gathered at a house in Chikonohono suburb and received lobola from a Mutare-based man.
According to Tawanda, his wife's belongings are still at his place and Munashe has instructed her brother to collect them.
"My wife was cheating on me. I only discovered this after I visited her at her sister's house in Chinhoyi only to be told she was now taken. I paid part of the lobola like Tsvakirai kuno and I was planning to pay part of the bride price during the first week of July. Munashe lied to me that she was coming to Harare on a Saturday but I decided to make a follow up the next day only to find her relatives gathered after receiving lobola. She is pregnant and I have been buying preparation clothes, which I can show you in the wardrobe. All her clothes are still in my bedroom. I am fully convinced that I am responsible for the child. Her sister openly told me that they received lobola from another man the day she lied to me that she was coming to Harare,"
Contacted for comment, Munashe denied the allegations:
"I am not married to Tawanda and I was not married by anyone as what people are saying. Above all, I am not pregnant as claimed. I am still single and unattached. I parted ways with Tawanda six months ago and he does not have any of my belongings," said Munashe.
However, the devastated Tawanda showed this news reporter clothes he claimed were his wife's despite her spirited denials. When we indicated that we were going to visit Munashe to verify the pregnancy, Munashe later shifted goalposts and CONFIRMED that she was married.
"It's my private life that I did not want to make public for my husband will hardly tolerate it. I wonder how that reached you after all the lobola was received in the presence of our very close family including one in South Africa. It is true that my clothes are still at Tawanda's house and this is where I made a mistake of not clearing that first. I used to cohabit with Tawanda during weekends as you know that it is common with college students and my clothes are still there. Tawanda did not want me to break up with him that he threatened to take those clothes to a witch doctor. After this I do not think it will be nice for me to have clothes taken from his house after such threats. My husband knows about Tawanda and I informed him about this development after you called me. We are going to take legal action against Tawanda over the story because my sister informed him after lobola was paid. I am now married to a man from Mutare not Gokwe as what he suspects," said Munashe.
