THE Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu, has praised the 2019 National Budget announced by Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube last week, saying it raises greater hopes for the country's economic future and massive developments.

In an interview at Zanu-PF Umguza constituency victory celebrations held at Nyamandlovu yesterday, Dr Mpofu said leaders have a mandate to fully explain to the people the reasons behind the decisions made in the budget.

"The budget raises hope for the country's economic future and development, the decisions taken might be tough but it is to turn around the country's economic situation for the better. It is upon leaders to make people understand the reasons behind the Government's decisions," he said.

Dr Mpofu said people should not grumble about the taxes that were introduced by the Government as they were not meant to impose pain but rather to secure the country's economy.

"We should consider sacrificing anything we have for the betterment of our economy, we Zimbabweans should unite in making sure the objectives and goals of the budget are met. There is no one who will come somewhere in the world to fix our economy, so we should not grumble or complain about the taxes posed by the Government but rather give some alternative ideas that will at the end better the economy. It might be tough and painful but we should give it time for the betterment of our country's economy," said Dr Mpofu.

He added that the decision on taxes is way better off for the country's development than massive borrowing.

"I am quite confident on the decision taken in the 2019 budget. I think it would improve our pace of development as a country than the massive borrowing as it comes with a lot of interests that at the end we always fail to pay resulting in huge debts. I urge people to embrace the decisions made as they are good for the country," he said.

Hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters gathered at Nyamandlovu to celebrate Richard Moyo's victory in the July elections.

Moyo, who is also the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs thanked the people for voting him.

Four beasts were slaughtered to feed the supporters.
