The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public and members of the motoring public of the proposed diversion and temporary conversion of 3rd Avenue from a ONE-WAY street to a TWO-WAY street for the section between Lobengula Street and Basch Street. The conversion will allow this section of 3rd Avenue (one lane) to be used as a diversion route for the traffic within the area bounded by Lobengula Street, 3rd Avenue, 6th Avenue and Basch Street.

The conversion is necessitated by the need to decongest 6th Avenue which is attributed to the ongoing construction of the Egodini Mall.

This section of 3rd Avenue will consist of two lanes of travel for the eastbound (to City Centre) traffic and a single lane for the westbound traffic (to Luveve).
Vehicles within the above commuter omnibus area wishing to travel west (to Luveve) via 6th Avenue Extension are encouraged to join 3rd Avenue and head west. Vehicles will continue west before turning south onto Basch street and continue south to join 6th Avenue Extension.
The rest of the vehicles from the city centre wishing to travel west via 6th Avenue are urged to use 10th Avenue and continue west before turning north onto Basch street to continue to join 6th Avenue Extension.

The construction works on the conversion of 3rd Avenue commenced on Monday, 12th November 2018 and continue until Friday, 7th December 2018.

3rd Avenue will operate as a two-way system starting on Monday, 10th December 2018 until Saturday, 30th November 2019, which is the expected completion date for the first phase of the Egodini Mall.
