Members of Parliament are today set to meet the Posts and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and other stakeholders to discuss the legal framework for combating cyber security crimes and other challenges in the sector.
This comes as Government has expressed concern over cyber security crimes and the desire to explore ways of containing cyber security vices that are mostly committed via social media and the Internet.
The Portfolio Committee on Information Communication and Technology, Potraz and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe will meet in Kadoma for a three-day workshop to brainstorm. Delegates to the workshop will also explore how citizens could use ICT responsibly and how the sector could contribute to the Government's Vision 2030.
In an interview, POTRAZ spokesperson Mr George Manyaya described the meeting as crucial as it is aimed at bringing convergence on the law.
"It is a long-awaited meeting of stakeholders," he said.
"The objective of the meeting firstly is to enable legislators to have an appreciation of our operations as POTRAZ and the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology and Courier Services.
"There are several issues to be discussed, chief among them is the legal framework that strengthens our regulatory function."
ICT and Courier Services Minister Kazembe Kazembe is expected to be the guest of honour and POTRAZ director-general Mr Gift Muchengete will outline the company's vision.
