A CHANCE meeting between a Bulawayo young man and Zanu-PF's Buhera South legislator Joseph Chinotimba when he was in Bulawayo proved a life-changing encounter for the youth.

Mr Shadreck Ndlovu from Emganwini suburb rushed to greet the celebrity politician and Chinotimba quizzed him about what he was doing in life.

Mr Ndlovu told Chinotimba who was in the city for the pre-budget seminar that he completed his Advanced Level in 2016 but was failing to enrol at university due to lack of funds. Chinotimba who was touched by Mr Ndlovu's plight, immediately offered to pay for his university education.

The MP who said his own schooling was disrupted by the liberation war, notified Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Judith Ncube when they met in Harare recently about his offer to Mr Ndlovu and asked her to help him enrol at one of the universities.

Ncube yesterday revealed that Chonotimba has since paid fees for Mr Ndlovu who has secured a place at at Lupane State University.

The Minister said: "Chinotimba said to me you know what? I am from Manicaland, I don't know them but I just felt let me assist the young man. After greeting him, he said he felt connected to the young man and offered to pay his fees and fortunately they rushed to look for a place and he has since paid his fees in full. He is now awaiting the commencement of the first semester."

Mr Ndlovu completed his Advanced Level studies at Nkulumane High School in 2016 and thanks to the Zanu-PF MP, he has enrolled for the African Languages and Communication degree programme at Lupane State University.

Mr Ndlovu said his father is unemployed and he was very grateful to Chinotimba for the kind gesture.

"The major hindrance to pursuing my studies was lack of funds because my father is unemployed and he cannot raise funds for me to go to university. I have been spending my time at home since I could not get funds to further my education," he said.

"I am so grateful because the way I met Chinotimba was funny. Some of my friends refused to go and greet him but I ran after him and greeted him and he inquired about what I was doing and he immediately said he would assist me pay my fees."

Ndlovu's father, Mr Shadreck Ndlovu could not hide his joy and relief following Chinotimba's intervention.

"Words fail me. Such a gesture coming from a stranger, someone that I see on television, I'm very thankful. I want to thank Chinotimba and also the Office of the Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs. And I want to emphasise that this is not political, it's not politics, its just straight help from Mr Chinotimba. We are so happy and we want to encourage the boy to focus on his studies and not look back," said Mr Ndlovu.

Minister Ncube said Chinotimba's gesture was a rare and urged other leaders to emulate such selflessness.

"On behalf of Bulawayo Province, I want to thank Chinotimba and ask the Lord to bless him," she said.
