A Harare woman has taken her brother to the civil court for accusing her of witchcraft. The brother, Shepherd Muzorewa alleged that his sister Bertha was using the goblins she brought from Malawi 37 years ago to bewitch his family.
This emerged at the civil court where Bertha brought Shepherd accusing him of calling her a witch.
"My brother started calling me a witch when I came back from Kenya in 1975," she said.
"I had gone on a scholarship to study secretarial courses and on my way back I passed through Malawi."
Bertha told the court that her brother accused her of obtaining goblins from Malawi that have caused eye problems to him and his children.
"He took the family to his traditional healer and then started accusing me of causing problems to his family," she said.
"The traditional healer then ordered me to go and fetch the juju that I had. Due to fear, I went and collected herbs for my blood pressure.
"The traditional healer then told me to wash his eyes with the herbs at gunpoint."
Shepherd dismissed his sister's side of the story as lies saying in 1975 when she came back from Kenya he had gone to fight in the liberation war.
"This woman told our uncle that if I don't surrender title deeds to our late parents' farm I will never have my sight," he said.
"I gave her the title deeds and she washed my eyes with juju. I had gone totally blind and at that moment I regained my sight.
"The eyesight problem has re-surfaced. I partially see and all my children have eye problems."
Magistrate Mr Milton Serima ordered Shepherd to stop calling his sister a witch.
"Do not demand anything from her for your healing purposes," she said. "Stop insulting or threatening her. You must stay well as brother and sister."
