Mystery forces school to close laboratory

Mystery surrounds the closure of a science laboratory at Mandwandwe secondary school in Bulawayo, after a science teacher passed away after he allegedly inhaled a poisonous substance while using the laboratory in 2016.
It may seem as business as usual at the school in Nkulumane but for teachers and students, it is not business as usual as they are living in trauma after the death of a former teacher, Mr Trust Ncube.
When the ZBC News crew visited the school, the laboratory was in a dilapidated state, a sign that showed it had been non-functional for some time.
Most students refused to comment on the ‘haunted science laboratory' on camera, fearing victimisation by the school authorities.
However, an anonymous former student said the laboratory was closed due to some gas leaks which killed the science teacher and since then, it was never used as students are afraid to learn in it.
The school's deputy headmaster, Mr Methuseli Moyo professed ignorance on the allegations, saying he is not aware of such things and claimed that the laboratory was being used.
A new science laboratory has since been built leaving the community wondering why the old laboratory is still closed if the allegations are false.
