A Central Intelligence Organisation operative and a farmer accused of extorting US$10 000 from Zifa chief executive Mr Jonathan Mashingaidze after threatening him with elimination over his involvement in the Asiagate match-fixing investigations were yesterday freed by a Harare magistrate.
Richard Mubaiwa (31) and Banket farmer John Chari (32) were removed from remand by Harare magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei after the State failed to provide a trial date for the pair.
Mr Ndirowei said the State can proceed by way of summons when it puts its house in order. Plainclothes police officers arrested Chari and recovered the money.
He implicated Mubaiwa.
