Harare tops beer volumes

DELTA BEVERAGES has revealed that Harare is leading on the amount of alcohol consumed in Zimbabwe for both clear and opaque beer.

According to Delta Beverages financial results for year ending March 31, 2012, Zimbabwe consumed 198.1 million hectolitres of lager last year, and 335.4 million hectolitres of masese.

It generated profits of $75 million in the process.

Breakdown by each province, in terms of lager: Harare drank 43%, Bulawayo 11% and, Masvingo 9%.

For opaque beer (Masese) Harare topped the charts again with 21%, Bulawayo 4%, Masvingo 19 and Mashonaland  West 18%.

On soft drinks Harare consumed 48% while Bulawayo accounted for just 12%.

Harare has the higher concentration of people in the country and this could explain he high volumes.
