RBZ Boss charged with criminal abuse of office

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Director of in charge financial intelligence Mirirai Chiremba was on Wednesday arrested and formally charged with an allegation of criminal abuse of office for irregularly increasing daily cash withdrawal limit of a gold dealer.
He was freed on $6,000 bail and remanded to January 10.
Chiremba was suspended after Gerald Mutumanje , the former chairman of the Ministry of Finance communications taskforce accused senior RBZ officials of running a foreign currency cartel at the central bank.
In a Facebook Live video, Mutumanje fingered RBZ Director Bank Supervision Norman Mataruka, Director Financial Markets Azvinandaa Saburi, Director Financial Intelligence Mirirai Chiremba and Head of Security Gresham Muradzikwa, accusing them of crimes ranging from off-the-books bond notes to corrupt allocation of foreign currency.
The officials were then suspended by Governor John Panonetsa Mangudaya.
