President Emmerson Mnangagwa has capped 2 844 students from the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU).

Speaking for the first time following his instalment as Chancellor of the university, President Mnangagwa said open distance learning is convenient and allows students to study away from campus.

He said this mode of learning requires a high level of discipline, honesty, focus and good ethical conduct, as it demands self-motivated people who are well-organised against the pressing needs of family, work and study.

The President said such characteristics are required in building the Second Republic.

He urged ZOU to adjust its organisational culture, its competitive position, degree and structure to align with the national focus.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Mugabe said the challenges facing the university need a multi-pronged approach, adding that they are seized with the task of ensuring ZOU is the most digital and innovation-friendly institution in Zimbabwe.
