Mnangagwa's faction plots to 'suffocate' Chiwenga at conference

Factional infighting in ZANU PF has reached a high pitch with members aligned to President Emmerson Mnangagwa calling for the President to be declared as life president, a move that is seen to close Vice President Constantino Guvheya Nyikadzino Chiwenga out of the succession plot.

ZANU PF structures have been falling over each other to endorse President Mnangagwa as the 2023 Presidential candidate just 90 days after the 2018 plebiscite.
A Central Committee member from Mashonaland East who spoke to us on condition of anonymity confirmed the report.

"Yes mkoma its true that there is a talk of a life President for Number 1 (President Mnangagwa) so that they try to close out the General (Chiwenga) from ever assuming power when Number 1 is still alive." The source revealed.

"The plan as we are hearing it is that a motion from the floor might be raised by Midlands or Masvingo province to amend the party and national constitution elevating Number 1 to be life President. Once the conference adopts the resolution and include that clause that means there wont be any elective congress anymore since you know that at Congress we elect the President who then selects his own Politiburo.

"The next plot will be that the Members of Parliament will then have to go to parliament and implement the resolution of removing the clause that limits the President to two term limits. With the popularity of ZANU PF and its experience in electoral process definitely as long as he lives Number 1 will then be winning elections.

"However what you must know is that we also are not quiet and just watching as Comrades especially from Mashonaland East. As we have always maintained, we removed the Former President because he had stayed too long and ended up being captured by G4o elements who have no understanding of where this party is coming from or going. So, we need fresh democracy in the party so that other nations view us as a transparent institution that they trust can trust to engage with.

The source revealed that the key people behind the shenanigans are ZANU PF members from Masvingo and Midlands who feel that the Karanga people have been elevated and are now enjoying proximity to power and must not lose that proximity.

"The reality of the matter is that most of what you are seeing is done by politics of greed and tribalism. There are people who want to use Number 1 for their own agendas because they claim to belong to the same tribe with him.

"Their actions are codified under the falsehoods that the President must bestow upon Zimbabwe a middle class status by 2030 so he definitely needs more two terms to do that. Afterwards they say he must supervise that the country does not fall back to its current status making him stay in power perpetually."

On Saturday Daily News also published reports that there are people who burning the midnight oil canvassing for President Mnangagwa to be life president.

Recently there were reports that Vice President Chiwenga is being convinced by some members of ZANU PF from Mashonaland East to step down from the Vice President and assume another portfolio in the Politiburo giving him  much power to maneuver around in consolidating his power base of succeeding the President.
