Man (30) in court for insulting policemen

A 32-YEAR-OLD man, who allegedly insulted police officers patrolling the neighbourhood to curb robbery, appeared in court on Friday. George Tambure of Unit D, Chitungwiza denied the charges of undermining police officers when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.
Ms Mugwagwa deferred the matter to May 20 for trial.
Charges against Tambure arose on February 20 this year, at around 9:30pm, when Constables Mafuyana and Karungaire stationed at Zengeza 4 Police Station were on duty patrolling in Unit D area which had become prone to robbery.
While they were cycling along Shamuyarira Road, they saw Tambure with his other four accomplices still at large seated at a dark place.
The two officers decided to go and inquire what they were doing in the dark.When the quartet saw the officerts approaching them Tambure and his company took to their heels.
Cst Karungaire chased after them and managed to apprehend Tambure as his friends disappeared in the night.
He was asked to produce his identification card and he failed to produce it.
When he was asked what they were doing, he failed to give a satisfactory answer.
It is alleged that he became violent and started shouting obscenities to the uniformed forces.
He accused them of being thieves, dogs, corrupt and uneducated saying they enrolled into police force through a marathon.
After the insults he escaped from the scene herding towards a certain house still shouting where he whistled to the dogs and tried to set them to the officers.
He was apprehended while trying to open the gate and was taken to the station.Mr Luke Mutupe prosecuted.
