Information and Communication Technology Minister Nelson Chamisa who is also the spokesperson of the MDC faction led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday appeared in court facing charges of negligent driving arising from 2007.
Chamisa appeared before magistrate Archie Wochiunga when he tried to apply for discharge citing the fact that his prosecution was now an element of persecution on the grounds of his political interests, considering the time that had lapsed before the trial had commenced.
"A period of four years wouldn't be reasonable time for trying this case, hence my application for discharge," said Chamisa's lawyer in his application.
The trial magistrate Wochiunga however dismissed Chamisa's application after the state led by Mr Nathaniel Chigoro objected to the application, he was then remanded to 17 March, a date set as the trial of the matter.
