Zimbabwe will this week join the rest of the world in commemorating World Telecommunications and Information Society Day amid reports that penetration rate has hit 74%.
In a bid to improve connectivity in the country, government embarked on various projects and initiatives to increase the usage of ICT products for the benefit of the economy.
Addressing journalists ahead of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Mr. Nelson Chamisa said Zimbabwe has a penetration rate of 74% which is a milestone achievement for government.
The usage of ICT products has been on the increase with the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe spearheading the schools computerisation programme with the launch at Chogugudza Primary School two months ago.
This year's commemorations will be held in Bulawayo under the theme: 'Women and Girls in ICT.'
