Two brothers from Bikita allegedly killed their 80-year-old uncle by beating him with logs after accusing him of possessing a goblin which they said caused misfortunes in the family.
The brothers Sungano (37) and Trymore (26) Musadongera of Dzinokuvara Village under Chief Mukanganwi last weekend allegedly pummeled their uncle, Mapisa Mukomba, of the same village with logs leaving him unconscious with severe head and body injuries.
Mukomba died on the same day at Silveira Mission Hospital after he allegedly succumbed to the injuries.
Masvingo police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterday said they had since arrested the Musadongera brothers and were charging them with murder.
"The brothers are assisting us with investigations and they will appear in court soon facing murder charges," said Inspector Matake.
It is alleged that on the day in question the two brothers left their homestead for their uncle's home with the intention to discuss a spate of misfortunes they said were haunting their family.
On arrival at their uncle's home, the brothers started accusing him of possessing a goblin which they claimed was behind the unspecified misfortunes.
Mukomba dismissed their allegations, a move which angered the brothers.
They armed themselves with logs which they used to beat Mukomba all over his body and head, leaving him with severe injuries.
His body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital from Silveira Mission Hospital for a post-mortem.
