VIOLENT scenes rocked most parts of Mutare on Tuesday, with riotous protesters barricading roads, especially arteries that feed into the city centre from the high density suburbs.
Although there were no reports of casualties from the violent demonstrations, believed to have been orchestrated by MDC-Alliance and other like-minded civic groups, damages to property was recorded in some parts of the town.
Cars were smashed in Chikanga suburb, with reports of police having been stoned in the same neighbourhood as they tried to bring sanity into the area.
In Sakubva, protesters blocked the entrance to the long distance bus terminus and also blocked the road to and from the city centre with stones and tyres, bringing traffic to a halt.
They burnt the tyres and heaped the stones on the road, blocking vehicles travelling to and from the city centre.
