The government has met transport operators over fare charging systems that take into account measures to stabilise the economy and restoration of normal services to the travelling public.
Submissions from the transport operators during the closed door meetings held in the capital this Thursday indicate that while they were willing to continue operations, they are concerned about the safety of their buses following damage to their assets by hooligans.
The transporters also raised concern on limited fuel supplies which is hindering efforts to normalise transportation of the public within the urban and long distance routes.
The Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Advocate Fortune Chasi told the ZBC News after the closed door meeting that the government will take into consideration the concerns raised by the transport operators and in the immediacy an agreement was reached over a fare charging model which is, however, subject to regulatory approval.
"The government has, however, come up with a policy that will take into account the needs of the travelling public to facilitate continued operations in the future," said Advocate Chasi.
The government also assured transport operators of a mechanism that will guarantee or facilitate viability of their operations in light of the need to minimise costs of production.
