A Ministry of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment employee stunned the court yesterday when he produced a pay slip showing that he earns US$0,54 in a bid to evade paying maintenance for his two children. Shine Tura sent the gallery
into guffaws after magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti asked him if US$0,54 was all he was getting at the end of the month.
Tura, was brought to the civil court by his estranged wife Sarudzai Kaseke, who was claiming maintenance for their children. He told the court that he could only afford
US$20 for maintenance for the children he fathered with Kaseke.
"Your worship, I have another wife. We have a child together with the woman I am currently staying with. I do not have other means of income apart from what you see on my pay slip," he said.
But Kaseke told Ms Muchuchuti that Tura was lying.
"Your worship this man is lying. He also owns a canteen and he is realising a lot of money," she said.
Upon being questioned by Ms Muchuchuti, Tura confirmed that he indeed runs a canteen. Ms Muchuchuti ordered Tura to pay US$60 with effect from this month.
