Mugabe appointed International Tourism Ambassador by the UN

President Robert Mugabe and his Zambian counterpart, President Michael Sata have been appointed International Tourism Ambassadors by the United Nations.
The United Nations through the UNWTO will officially confer the status at a function to be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls next week and officiated by the UNWTO president, Mr Talib Rifai.
Speaking on the sidelines of the African Travel Association (ATA) conference in Victoria Falls, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi said Zimbabwe and Zambia will jointly host the event that will see the two Presidents signing the golden book of tourism.
He said the signing of the golden book on tourism is a commitment by the two Heads of state to support tourism in their two countries.
Minister Mzembi also said the two Presidents will append their signatures to a Memorandum of Understanding on the co-hosting of the UNWTO which will be witnessed by the UNWTO Secretary General on May 28.
The golden book of tourism is signed by the country that would have won the bid to host the UNWTO General Assembly.
Delegates from various African countries including the Caribbean's are still jetting into the resort town and Vice President Joice Mujuru, who is also the tourism patron, has already arrived ahead of the official opening set for this Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the ATA conference entered its first day at the Elephant Hills hotel with a meeting for Young Professional Forum which emphasized among other things, the need for youths to have an appreciation of the tourism industry, thereby actively participating in its development.
The president for ATA's Mid Atlantic Chapter, Dr Johannes Zeleke called on African governments to incorporate the history of tourist attractions in the educational curriculums as a way of enhancing understanding of the natural resources by the youths.
Outside the conference centre, more than 32 exhibitors are showcasing their products ranging from curios and eco-tourism products.
