Gutu - MDC-T councillor for Ward 5, Gutu West Constituency, Maxwell Mazambani was on Thursday fined one goat by village head Chikanya for hosting party supporters and officials after the police had blocked a district rally at Matizha Business Centre last Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in a telephone interview, Councillor Mazambani said Chikanya summoned him to the village court on instructions from Chief Serima, Vengai Rushwaya.

Councillor Mazambani said party officials in Gutu West Constituency were operating in a harsh political environment dominated by Zanu PF hard liners and apologists masquerading as traditional leaders.

In Kadoma, a Regional magistrate has ruled that five Zanu-PF members who assaulted 6 MDC activists after they attended a party leadership training programme in Sanyati last month be jailed.

Nosty Chadzamira was sentenced to 2 years while Watson Moyo was slapped with a 10 month jail term. The two were accused of mobilising and leading other Zanu-PF youths who attacked the MDC members. The other three accomplices, Stephen Sikini, Noah Sibanda and Tafara Hove were jailed for 11 months each for the same offence.

In an interview, the MDC Sanyati District Chairperson Luckmore Chida said Chadzamira and company's jail term was a lesson to Zanu pf perpetrators of violence.

Moyo and Chadzamira are set to appear again in court facing another charge of political violence on 24 May 2012 for attacking Chadiwa and Nyamadzawo.
