POLITICAL activist and former youth leader, Jim Kunaka was hauled to court over the weekend on treason charges.
Kunaka was denied bail and will be back in court today.
Kunaka faces charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government in events that led to last week's violent demonstrations.
The matter was heard by Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo, who remanded the matter to today after Kunaka's lawyers challenged placement on remand.
Kunaka was represented by Arnold Taruvinga, Advocate Givemore Madzore and Munyaradzi Bwanya, who opposed placement on remand on the basis that Kunaka was wrongfully in court and the State has no case against him.
Kunaka was referred to the High Court as he is facing a third schedule offense and if the court rules in his favour today, he will be released forthwith.
Kunaka is amongst the 600 people who were arrested for their roles in the violent demonstrations.
Shepherd Makonde appeared for the State.
