Members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police are alleged to have physically abused and raped more than 23 children so far during the political unrest that rocked the country since January 14.

This was revealed by the Founder and Senior Pastor of Celebration Church Tom Deuschle.

"I spoke to one of Zimbabwe's fine nurse counselors yesterday." Pastor Deuschle said. "She told me stories of more than 23 children she had treated; all were brutalized physically and sexually during recent political upheaval."

Deuschle revealed that then victims pointed at the members of the police as their abusers.

"They all identified police as perpetrators. This is unacceptable and cannot be swept under the carpet."

Commenting on Deuschle's revelation, Lawyer and Child Right activist Rongedzayi Fambasayi said, "The unconfirmed number of children affected may be astounding, if one nurse counselor treats 23 children. Thank you for speaking out Pastor."

The revelations by Pastor Deuschle come during a time when itv news released a video of 11 women who claim that they were raped by members of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces during the same period.

Army and Police details are reportedly to be continuing an operation in the western suburbs of Harare and Bulawayo   where they are dragging men out of their houses at night and assaulting them with bicycle chains and button sticks.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa's spokesperson has since distanced the President from the tweets which were posted on his account on Tuesday saying the President has no direct access to the account.

The tweets had called for peace and condemned the brutality that is being done by members of the security forces.

Meanwhile United Nations has condemned the acts of violence by the security forces and called upon the government of Mnangagwa to cease the crackdown.
