Former Deputy Minister of Finance Terrence Mukupe has rubbished Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba's statements that Zimbabwe is not desperate to join the Commonwealth.
Charamba was quoted by some sections of the media on Thursday saying, "Zimbabwe is not desperate to be re-admitted into the Commonwealth. Both Zimbabwe and the Commonwealth nations would benefit if Harare was re-admitted into the club of Anglophone nations."
Responding to Charamba , Mukupe said, "Mugabe days of toxic comments and blaming the British and Americans for everything that's wrong with Zimbabwe's renaissance are back powered by George. We need the British and the Americans in as much as we need the Asians as shown by the re-engagement efforts of President Emmerson Mnangagwa."
Charamba is alleged to be a close ally of Vice President Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga who is reported to be pushing for an impeachment on President Mnangagwa by parliament.
Zimbabwe left Commonwealth in December 2003 after being suspended from the body of former British colonies.
The commonwealth is yet to review Zimbabwe's eligibility to rejoin the club after the recent developments in the country which were described by Britain as gross abuse of human rights.
