CHINHOYI magistrate Felix Mawadze last week acquitted Primrose Simbaneuta and Chad Chikwehwa, who were facing charges of public violence.

Giving his ruling at the close of the State case, Mawadze said it was clear that Simbaneuta was not at the scene of crime as alleged by the State.

Mawadze said, above all, Simbaneuta was never implicated by State witnesses and the court was satisfied that there was no prima facie case against her.

On the case of Chikwehwa, Mawadze said the accused produced a receipt of peanut butter found in his possession.

Tungamirai Chamutsa, who was representing Simbaneuta, said it was a fair ruling.

The other 13 suspects also accused of public violence and looting have been put to their defence, as the trial continues today.

Meanwhile, a Mutare protester, who reportedly barricaded roads with stones during the recent three-day stayaway, was on Friday found guilty by provincial magistrate Sekai Chiundura.

Chiundura told the court that there was overwhelming evidence that Trymore Nyamaropa committed the offence. Nyamaropa will, however, be sentenced today after his lawyer Blessing Nyamaropa asked for time to prepare mitigation.
