Mnangagwa praises Tuku's works

National hero and international music icon Dr Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi was yesterday buried at his rural homestead in Madziwa, Mashonaland Central province.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whose speech was read by Defence and War Veterans Minister Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, hailed the works of the music superstar as classy and timeless music which epitomised Zimbabwe's identity, cultures and values of Ubuntu.

The day's proceedings commenced with a church service.

The turnout at Tuku's burial testified how the humble boy from Madziwa who grew up in Highfield had become a source of national pride.

Family spokesperson Mr Victor Rukanga who gave a speech on behalf of the family exalted Tuku for his good deeds and also introduced Tuku's four surviving children Samantha, Selmor, Sandra and Selby.

Dr Mtukudzi is survived by his wife Daisy, four children and seven grandchildren.

Meanwhile, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri has commended Amai Daisy Mtukudzi for standing by her husband until his time of death.

Speaking in Madziwa, Muchinguri Kashiri said Mai Mtukudzi worked with her husband in promoting his iconic work of promoting music and arts internationally.
