Energy Mutodi thanks soldiers for maintaining peace

The Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadacasting Sevices Energy Mutodi has paid gratitude to the members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for maintain peace in the country amidst a multipronged onslaught from different angles
Said Mutodi,"For a nation that had been threatened by fuel shortages, and social media abuse lawlessness, many thanks go to Dr John Mangudya, State Security Minister Owen Ncube and the Defence Forces Command for their maintenance of peace and tranquility."
Owen Mudha Ncube chaired the Joint Operations Command meeting that resolved to deploy the members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces on January 15 after violent protestors overpowered the police details and burnt a police station.
Incidents of shop looting, burning of vehicles and destruction of service stations were reported all over the country.
It is however not clear what law empowered Ncube to chair JOC which is generally chaired by the President.
Since the deployment of the armed forces to maintain peace, law and order twelve citizens have died from gunshots, cores hospitalized and thousand languishing in remand prison while others are having their case fast tracked and sentenced daily.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) over the weekend issued a dmaning statement condemning the abuse of rule of law by magistrates countrywide. LSZ said accused persons related to violent protests are denied access to lawyers and medication. They also noted that their cases are fast tracked and they are subjected to mass trials with bail application denied.
LSZ also revealed that the trend was similar all over the country. Chairperson of the Judiciary Services Commission denied that there is an instruction issued to judiciary officers to treat accused persons in a a manner alleged by LSZ.
