Bushiri to pay R50 000 daily for legal fees

Enlightened Christian Gathering leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri have enlisted the services of South Africa's top legal bulldog Advocate Barry Roux.

South Africa media on Tuesday reported that Advocate Barry Roux  will represent the couple at their bail application on Wednesday.

The Advocate is one of the most expensive lawyers in the neighbouring country which his daily court appearance costing about US$3 700 (R50 000).

Prophet Bushiri and his wife are accused of fraud and money-laundering, as well as the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), which had been committed from 2015 amounting to 15 Million Rand.

Their hearing  was postponed on Monday at the request of the defense team to allow them to file a bail application.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU), a branch of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), had joined the legal fight against the controversial couple and had filed a preservation order seeking to seize their assets, pending the finalisation of the criminal case against them.

On Monday Prophet Uebert Angel, the spiritual father of Bushiri urged all members of his church and Bushiri's church to conduct a fast from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday afternoon praying for the release of the Prophet.

Bushiri found support from popular South African Pastor Mboro and politician Andile Mgxitama who were at the court on Monday to show their solidarity.
